STABLE SUBSOIL ROADS AND BUILDINGS OFTEN HAVE TO BE CONSTRUCTED ON UNSUITABLE SUBSOIL. LIME PRODUCTS FROM INTERCAL AUSTRIA ARE USED AS STABILIZERS TO AVOID THE SUBSOIL HAVING TO BE REMOVED AND DUMPED IN PREPARATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION WORK, OR FOR GRAVEL AND CRUSHED STONE BEING NEEDED AS FILL. THIS SAVES TIME, REDUCES COSTS AND HAS A POSITIVE EFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT. The limestone used to make these products is extracted from the quarry adjacent to Intercal Austria in Peggau. After extraction, an important refining step is for the limestone to be burned in a kiln at about 1,000 °C, a process that converts calcium carbonate into calcium oxide. In a final work step, the burned lime is ground and prepared in the lime mixing plant with special additives for use as a stabilizing product in road construction. Lime products from Intercal Austria are binders that increase the strength and load-bearing capacity of the subsoil. But lime and limestone products are not only used for soil stabilization. They also play a role in the other layers of modern roads, whether as a limestone mixture in the frost protection layer or in the base layers or asphalt surface.
