LIME GRP PIPE SYSTEMS DUST-FREE LOADING At Peggau in Styria, the Intercal Austria site has invested some 30,000 euros in a new loading station for fine-grained lime. This has considerably reduced the amount of dust generated, especially when loading open trucks. Lime with a maximum grain size of three millimeters is now diverted to a new station with a suitable loading chute. This has enabled dust emissions to be reduced by up to 99 percent. CLEAN BALANCE SHEET AS A RESULT OF MORE THAN 50 YEARS OF COMPANY DEVELOPMENT AND THE ASSOCIATED ACQUISITION OF UNIQUE EXPERTISE IN THE FIELD OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS TECHNOLOGY, AMIBLU PIPES TODAY HAVE A SERVICE LIFE OF MORE THAN 150 YEARS. THE COMPANY HAS ALWAYS BEEN AWARE OF THE SUSTAINABLE PROPERTIES OF ITS PRODUCTS. HOWEVER, THIS HAS RECENTLY BEEN CLEARLY CONFIRMED SCIENTIFICALLY AS WELL. Recently Amiblu commissioned a study to compare the environmental footprint of GRP pipes and pipes made of cast iron, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene (PE). Several aspects have to go under the microscope simultaneously in order to evaluate the most environmentally friendly version. Katrine Steen Fjeldhus has done just that at the Norwegian University of Environment and Life Sciences in Ås. Her study, in which she researched the different impacts of resource use, production method, installation, service life and transport, clearly shows that glass fiber-reinforced pipes leave the smallest ecological footprint.
