CEMENT & CONCRETE PP PIPE SYSTEMS/POLOPLAST SAVING WATER Water is one of the most important resources used to produce concrete. Between 180 and 200 liters are needed for each cubic meter of concrete. A further 25 liters per cubic meter are required to clean the mixer carts. Italian concrete company Friulana Calcestruzzi has invested 70,000 euros in a new recycling system to save water in this process. The waste water resulting from the cleaning process is collected and used to produce new concrete mixes. This reduces the consumption of fresh water to 120 liters per cubic meter. The plant in Fontanafredda alone saves 1,200 cubic meters of water per year. In the near future, this figure will be 5,500 cubic meters across the entire Friulana Group. The company is also testing a new system at the Fontanafredda site: sludge from the cleaning process is reused to produce non-load-bearing concrete. BUILT SMART With its modern headquarters in Leonding, Poloplast shows how smart architecture can help companies save a considerable amount of energy and CO 2 . More than 1.2 million euros were invested in the renovation of the roof and facade thermal insulation and new, highly insulated windows. The sustainable building concept enables heating requirements to be halved and around 127 tons of CO 2 to be saved each year, despite expansion of the premises.
