NEWLY DEVELOPED! Thanks to an innovation in glass fiber fabrics, Hobas Pipe USA is able to reduce valuable material usage while maintaining the consistent quality of the end product. The company now uses triaxial glass fiber fabric for the manufacture of pipe fittings. It has been possible to simultaneously reduce the material needed to manufacture connectors and increase the production rate because this fabric is much more robust and flexible than biaxial fabric. Use of the triaxial fabric began in June 2019. As well as carrying out a series of stress tests at the Houston site, Hobas Pipe USA also sent a complete set of pipe fittings to Norway for special tests at the Amiblu Technology Center to confirm the efficiency of this approach. LEARNING PRACTICAL Service company Salinvest, a fully owned subsidiary of Salonit Anhovo and responsible for all maintenance work at the cement plant since 2006, has put its apprentice training on a new footing. In the past, the skills of applicants for technical careers were largely limited to school-level knowledge. This state of affairs made things difficult for companies and for apprentices looking to enter the world of work. Under the coordination of the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, practical and theoretical apprentice training were linked more closely together again. The result is apprentice training that now lasts three school years. During this time, trainees spend two working days per week at the company, where they can immerse themselves more deeply in practical, everyday work under the guidance of a qualified professional mentor and foremen.
