RTO Werk Wietersdorf

At the beginning of October, the RTO (regenerative thermal oxidation) post-combustion system went into operation. The highly efficient regenerative thermal oxidation process, uses energy from polluted exhaust gas, which is heated and cooled by large ceramic heat accumulators in the towers of the system. In the combustion chamber, which can be found at the top of the five towers, the exhaust gases remain at 850°C for a minimum of two seconds, reducing volatile organic carbon emissions (VOC) by over 90%.

“In combination with the mercury reduction system and the previously introduced baghouse filter, the post-combustion system sets a new standard for exhaust gas purification systems in the cement industry,” explains Florian Salzer, the operations manager of the Wietersdorf cement plant.

Facts and figures on the post-combustion system – RTO

The first parts of the post-combustion system were delivered at the beginning of 2017, and construction was commenced in March of this year. In total, almost 1,400 tonnes of material have been processed by 250 employees during 25,000 working hours. The post-combustion system consists of 52,000 ceramic regenerators, has a total surface area of 300,000 m², is 22 meters in height and has a base area of 660 m².

The closing of the joint venture between HOBAS Pipes International and Amiantit Europe was legally finalized on 31st August with the entry of AMIBLU® Holding GmbH in the company’s register. Although both companies have been and still are active on the European market with GRP pipes and moldings, their focuses differ. The former AMIANTIT Europe manufactures pipes under the brand name FLOWTITE, using the continuous advancing mandrel process. In this process, continuous and chopped glass fibers are constantly and circumferentially applied to reinforce the steel core. HOBAS, on the other hand, mainly produces centrifugally cast (CC-)GRP pipes; whereby, reinforcing glass fibers, thermosetting resins and sand quartz are compressed into a fast rotating mold. In both companies, component moldings (e.g., for water tanks, couplings etc.) and so-called NC pipes (non-circular) pipes are produced. The new company AMIBLU® has around 1,470 employees at 7 production sites in 5 countries and generates an approx. annual turnover of EUR 200 million.

Baumit signing_Engl

Today, on March 16th an agreement was reached between WIG Wietersdorfer Holding GmbH and Schmid Industrieholding GmbH that the Wietersdorfer segment, w&p Baustoffe GmbH is to be solely owned by the former partner, Schmid Industrieholding GmbH, including all its locations and shares in the brands BAUMIT and KEMA. In w&p Baustoffe GmbH, the B2C building material activities of the Wietersdorfer Group are clustered in more than 20 countries. BAUMIT and KEMA have approx. 650 employees, of whom 225 are located in Austria.

Innovation, specialisation, and internationalisation characterise the new strategic orientation of the Wietersdorfer Group. With the sale of the building materials segment, the company will focus on the B2B sector and financial leeway is given for growth in those business segments in which increased development potential is expected.

In the pipe sector (HOBAS and Poloplast), we see great opportunities for growth and further specialisation. The aim is to increase focus on the other business segments, “cement and concrete” and “lime”, as well as international investments.

With today’s “signing”, we have reached a milestone in the M&A transaction, however the “closing” is still subject to the approval of several antitrust authorities. Business transactions between Wietersdorfer Baumit / Kema customers and w&p Baustoffe GmbH will remain unaffected for now.

Railway Polen mRes

Dear Reader,

laying projects involving railways ask for special logistical and safety measures: The train schedules should not be affected and of course passengers must be guaranteed a safe journey regardless of the construction works.

Over the past years, numerous fascinating projects below rail tracks have been successfully realized with high-performance HOBAS Pipes. And thanks to the increasing specification by official railway institutions all over the world, most recently in the US, there are definitely many more to come.

New HOBAS Fittings Production in Romania

Over the last few months, a new hall for the production of fittings was built at the premises of HOBAS Romania. The fittings production started end of July. In the new premises, mainly standard pipe fittings for regional markets are being manufactured. HOBAS Experts from Austria trained their Romanian colleagues in order to make sure that the high quality standards of the HOBAS Group are also met within the new production hall.

In the course of the new construction, great value was placed on renewable energy and energy efficiency: The fittings production hall is equipped with solar panels and the social areas are illuminated by LED lights.
