w&p Kalk GmbH is responsible for all Wietersdorfer activities concerning lime in Austria and abroad. In legal terms, it is the parent company of LTV and Kamen Sirac d.d. and from an administrative point of view SIA and IGM also belong to it.
The company itself operates a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient Maerz PFR lime kiln. When the kiln went into service in spring 2009, it opened a new chapter in the history of the Peggau plant.
Lime is burnt or calcined in Peggau for a wide range of industries and applications. In construction, lime is used in various different forms for stabilising soils, building roads and in structural engineering – primarily as hydrated lime here. Environmental uses of lime include treating potable water, process water and flue gas scrubbing. For farming, w&p also produces lime for fertilisers, feed supplements and disinfectants. In industrial applications, the steel and paper industries are bulk buyers of burnt lime. We can only list just some of the uses here, as lime is extremely versatile in its properties and applications.
