Cement and Concrete
In the cement and concrete business segment, we have concentrated all of our activities on the development, production, processing, and distribution of high-quality cements and concretes. Altogether we are represented by our companies in over 20 locations in Austria, Italy, and Slovenia. They stand for first-class products, state-of-theart processes, and treating people and the environment responsibly. Our production facilities are amongst the cleanest and most energy-efficient cement and concrete plants in Europe.
Customer Orientation for Market Leadership
Our goal is to strengthen and expand our leading position in our main markets in Southern Austria, Northern Italy, and Slovenia. In order to achieve this we are committed to genuine customer focus, technological development, and continuous modernization of our facilities.
Our Companies in the Alps-Adriatic Region
In Austria, w&p Zement GmbH based in Klein St. Paul has raised the bar in the industry. One notable example of this is using ecological alternative fuels. The company owns the cement plants in Wietersdorf and Peggau as well as all w&p concrete plants in Austria. In Italy, w&p Cementi SpA at San Vito al Tagliamento has a reputation for first-class binders and cement. And Salonit d.d., Slovenia’s largest cement manufacturer, also belongs to our Group. Other Group companies include Rokava, a ready-mixed concrete company in Slovenia, and Friulana Calcestruzzi in Northern Italy.
Environment and Cement
Environmental protection and sustainability have been key issues at Wietersdorfer from the very beginning. We constantly strive to develop our products and optimize our production processes, whilst also taking resource conservation and energy efficiency into account. Having succeeded in increasing the alternative fuel rate to over 80%, we are among the industry leaders. In addition, w&p Zement GmbH has had a certified environmental management system to ISO 14001 in place since March 2000. We also invested €75 million in greening and refurbishing our Slovenian facility in 2009 alone.
Wietersdorfer was formed 120 years ago as a cement manufacturer. Cement is still frequently used in construction today for our buildings and infrastructure, and will continue to play a key role in the future.

The Cement business segment also includes BAUFELD-AUSTRIA, which is responsible for supplying the cement plants with high-quality alternative fuels. It uses both untreated waste and material fractions that have already been pretreated by waste collectors or processors. BAUFELD-AUSTRIA subjects the feedstock to suitable processing, turning waste into fuel. Such solid recovered fuels are at least comparable to conventional ones, they help to conserve resources and – as a practical way of recycling waste – are a sustainable alternative to simple waste disposal (dumping).
